C: As You Sleep

It’s a picturesque scene; the moon casting her eternal glow on the earth and stars dancing about in the midnight sky. The sole sounds are crickets chirping, and for those who fight monstrosities, it’s nothing short of heavenly to hear no screams of pain.

Levi leans back on the chair he fell asleep in, eyes flickering over to look at the woman snoring on the bed. Cece is a bit of a strange one, but after her entire first team was devoured by titans, it makes sense why she’s the way she is.

Sometimes, Levi finds it hard to believe the relationship they have. Cece told him all those months ago she’d been in love with him for two years, and at first, he didn’t believe her. How could he? He never experienced love in any form, so the concept of it was something foreign and strange.

Despite having next to no clue about how to react when it comes to romance or any of its requirements, Cece seems to appreciate when he does certain things. Whether it’s smoothing her hair back when she sleeps, tenderly touching her cheek and wiping away any excess blood, Levi takes her cues and tries to do more to warrant her lips to curl to those cute little smiles.

At times, she shoots up in bed and trembles, eyes wild and sweat pouring down her brow. It’s these moments the captain has no idea what to do; he watches as she bites her lower lip so hard blood dribbles down her chin. After it’s over, he wipes away the blood and she clings to him like a child.

It’s difficult, seeing someone you care for come apart in your embrace, but Levi doesn’t let his emotions show, true to form. All he does is wrap her within the safe cocoon of his arms and let her breathe harshly as she tries to come back to reality.

She’d be okay after about ten minutes, and she’d look at him, crystal tears falling down her cheeks. Levi would sigh, the sound tinged with a slight affectionate edge, as he take a tissue and wipe them away.

”You can cry here, but when you fight, you must not show the enemy your weakness.”

“It’s alright. In time, you will.”

They would have conversations similar many times after Cece came back from the horrors that was her own mind. Levi often wishes he could do more for the one he cares for, but the little conversations they’d have seem to give her a miniscule sense of peace, at least for that time.

In the present day, Cece murmurs something in french as she turns to face him. Her chestnut hair frames her face as her hands grip the pillows, and Levi shakes his head fondly, smoothing her hair back and tucking it behind her ear.

“Sleep well, cutie.”
